What started as a very late night putting the final items together for our trip, quickly proved our exhaustion in the new blustery, cold day. Not a minute after my mom placed a huge spread of pancakes, eggs, bacon, and some much needed coffee, the snow started falling in Denver. We arrived to the airport with time to spare, which turned out to be lucky because the TSA security found the keys I was supposed to leave behind. Frantically, I sprinted backwards through the security line to find a post office to return them to their temporary storage. The efforts of the postman, who conveniently opened the office 40 min late, made me doubt the "rain and shine" slogan they proudly tout, and also pressed our time closer to departure than comfortable in such a huge airport. Somehow we made the flight and we were off!
The next part got hot, as in temperature. Dallas weather was contrary to Denver with crystal blue skys and a temperature some 65 degrees higher. We enjoyed the entertainment of riding the train back and forth multiple times between terminals during, what we thought, was an excessive layover. We settled for a pizza. The overpriced sub standard meal was hastily cut short when we heard the last call for boarding. Lesson of the day: time zones.
